Programme 12 November 2011
From the Newsletter of the Newbury Branch of the MS Society:
"Concert in aid of our MS Society Branch ... The talented Sandham Singers organised a Remembrance concert on Saturday 12th November in St Nicolas Church, Newbury, with ticket sales supporting our Branch.
Fauré's magical Requiem was the mainstay of the evening, performed very professionally by the Sandham Singers, and moving readings were read by various choir members. It was a truly magical evening, and it was great to see several of our members and supporters there."
The Newbury Weekly News said:
"Under the sensitive direction of musical director Nicholas Woods the choir gave a very good account of this rather gentle requiem ... fine performance." |

Programme 22 May 2011
With the kind permission of The Master, Sandham Singers celebrated a full Choral Evensong in the wonderful chapel of Marlborough College. Choir members and guests alike enjoyed this moving service conducted by Canon John Simpson, himself an Old Marlburian, a dedicated musician and long standing friend of the choir from his days at Bristol Cathedral where we have been privileged to sing the weekend’s services on a number of occasions.
Inspired by the opportunity to sing in this beautiful building with its outstanding acoustic, the service began with Barry Ferguson's 'It was on that train' sung as the introit, a moving tribute to Mother Teresa's lifelong commitment to the poor of India. We chose to sing the challenging, but lovely, the Rose 'Responses', Stanford's rousing Magnificat and contrastingly peaceful Nunc Dimitis.
Our chairman, Bill Acworth, gave a short address in praise of FARM-Africa's influential work with rural communities in East Africa, stressing the long term and replicable nature of their many successful projects in that often harsh region. |

The enormous generosity of the congregation enabled us to send over £1,100 to a very grateful FARM-Africa.
For the anthem we sang 'Love Divine' by Howard Goodall, accompanied by organist Philip Aspden, who helped the congregation to fill the glorious space with rich sound in the singing of a number of joyous hymns.
To round up the evening, choir members and many of the congregation repaired to the renowned Polly Tearooms, spoiling ourselves to a delicious cream tea! When writing to thank us, the Chaplain was bold enough to invite us to make a repeat visit to which we will be pleased to invite our ever growing band of 'Friends'. |

The St. George's Centre, Wash Common, Newbury was bursting at the seams with an audience of all ages enjoying a varied programme of choral music, and a selection of solos and duets from individual talent within the choir.
The icing on the cake was the result of everyone's generosity to raise substantial funds for the West Berks Community Hospital who rely on charitable donations for the excellent service they provide the Newbury area. From the sale of tickets & programmes, a raffle and extra donations, we were pleased to be able to give the hospital a cheque for over £650 toward the creation of its Therapy Garden as a peaceful space for the rehabilitation of neurological patients.
